What Families Experience

Family mental health needs rarely arrive one at a time. A child's anxiety reshapes the dinner table; a parent's depression changes the whole house; a teen's ADHD pulls everyone into the morning scramble. You might recognize some of these:

These are common, treatable patterns. Several point to conditions that show up across a household rather than in one person alone.

Common Conditions We Treat in Families

These frequently co-occur. The Sigmund Assessment maps the full picture first, so the plan targets what's actually driving it, not the loudest symptom.

Anxiety

Anxiety is the condition most likely to ripple through a family. A child's avoidance can reorganize a household's routines, and anxious patterns often run in parents too. Evidence-based treatment, including CBT, works for children, teens, and adults. See our anxiety page.

ADHD

ADHD frequently runs in families and shows up as missed deadlines, lost items, and morning chaos that strains everyone. When a parent and child both have it, the household runs on the same unmanaged patterns. Accurate evaluation and targeted treatment change how the day functions. See our ADHD page.

Depression

Depression in a child or teen often reads as irritability, withdrawal, or slipping grades rather than sadness, and it pulls parents and siblings into worry. Early, accurate treatment changes that trajectory and eases the strain at home. See our depression page.

OCD

OCD often draws family members into accommodating rituals, which feels supportive but reinforces the cycle. Treatment includes the family in changing those patterns alongside the patient's own care. See our OCD page.

How We Care for Families

Every patient's care is informed by the Sigmund Assessment, a structured digital evaluation the clinician reviews before the first appointment. It maps each person's symptom history, what's worked and what hasn't, their biology, their environment, and the family's goals, so session one starts with a plan instead of paperwork.

For each family member, one clinician handles their care from the same chair: therapy, medication when it's indicated, and the lifestyle factors that shape it, including sleep, structure, and routines at home. There's no prescriber-and-therapist split per person. When more than one family member is in care, we coordinate across clinicians so the plans align, and we offer family therapy using family-systems and structural approaches when the work belongs in the room together. For partners, we also offer couples therapy.

Several clinicians focus on children and adolescents, including dual board-certified child psychiatrists. The practice houses clinicians affiliated with the National Institutes of Health, Columbia University, and New York-Presbyterian Hospital, and you can explore the research behind how we assess and treat. Care is available in person at our Manhattan office and by telehealth anywhere in New York State.

Insurance and Billing

Integrative Psych is an out-of-network practice. You pay at the time of service and receive a monthly superbill to submit to your insurer for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Many PPO plans reimburse a portion, and your insurer is the best source for what your plan covers. To check yours, call the number on your card and ask about out-of-network reimbursement for outpatient psychiatric evaluations, follow-up visits, and therapy.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my child needs a psychiatrist instead of a therapist?

If your child has worked with a therapist without meaningful progress, or if medication may be part of the picture, a clinician who does both is the natural next step. Our clinicians integrate therapy and medication in each patient's care, so you don't have to choose one path first and hope it's right.

Yes. Each family member works with their own clinician on their own plan, and we coordinate across those clinicians so the care stays connected. We also offer family therapy as a modality when the work belongs in the room together.

Children, teens, and adults. Several clinicians focus on children and adolescents, including dual board-certified child psychiatrists, so each person is matched with someone whose training fits their age and presentation rather than whoever is available.

Yes. Clinicians share treatment goals, progress updates, and guidance on what to watch for at home, with involvement calibrated to your child's age and clinical needs. For younger children parents are closely engaged; for older teens the balance shifts toward the patient while keeping you informed.

Our office is at 80 8th Ave in Manhattan, where we offer family therapy and see families in person, and we offer telehealth anywhere in New York State. Sessions follow the same model in either format, and your clinician can advise which fits your child best.

If care has come one piece at a time without things connecting, an evaluation is a reasonable next step. The consultation helps you decide if we are the right practice to meet your needs.

Crisis Resources: We are not an emergency treatment clinic. If your child or a loved one is in crisis, call 911, call or text 988 (Suicide and Crisis Lifeline), or go to the nearest emergency room. Integrative Psych is an outpatient practice and is not equipped to provide crisis intervention.

ready when you are

Take the First Step

The consultation is a conversation about your family's situation and whether we're the right fit. It's not a commitment to treatment, and if it isn't the right practice, we'll tell you directly. Appointments are in person at our Manhattan office or by telehealth anywhere in New York State.
