What Parents Notice

Most parents don't arrive with a diagnosis in mind. They arrive with a pattern they can't explain, and it helps to call it by name. You might recognize some of these:

Patterns like these aren't character flaws. They're clinical signals, and when they're evaluated properly, they point to conditions that have real, evidence-based treatment.

Common Conditions in Children and Teens

These frequently co-occur. The Sigmund Assessment maps the full picture first, so the plan targets what's actually driving it, not the loudest symptom.

ADHD in teens

ADHD in adolescents rarely looks like the running-around version most people picture. It shows up as chronic procrastination, missed deadlines, time blindness, and working twice as hard for half the output. By high school, a teen who has been quietly compensating for years can look like a motivation problem when the issue is executive function. More on ADHD.

Teen anxiety

Anxiety in teenagers shows up as physical tension, disrupted sleep, social avoidance, quiet perfectionism, and relentless mental rehearsal before school or a hard conversation. It's often the first thing to surface and the easiest to miss, because an anxious kid can still look like they're holding it together. More on anxiety.

Teen depression

Depression in teens rarely arrives as the sad, withdrawn kid in the stock photo. It surfaces as irritability, lost interest in what used to matter, sleep changes, and a widening gap between the kid at dinner and the kid you used to know. For many teens, anxiety leads and depression follows. More on depression.

Children's OCD

OCD in children is often missed for years because the rituals live inside the child's head: intrusive thoughts, checking, counting, contamination fears, or needing things to feel "just right." Kids rarely volunteer this, and the first-line treatment is exposure and response prevention, a structured form of therapy. More on OCD.

How We Care for Children and Teens

Every child's care is informed by the Sigmund Assessment, a structured evaluation the clinician reviews before the first appointment. It maps your child's symptoms, history, sleep, school and home environment, and your goals together, so session one starts with a plan instead of paperwork.

From there, one clinician handles the care: evaluation, therapy, and medication management when it's clinically indicated. There's no therapist-and-prescriber split, and parents are looped in throughout, from history-gathering and home-strategy coaching to school documentation and developmentally appropriate privacy for teens. Where therapy is the right step, CBT adapted for kids builds the planning, initiation, and regulation skills medication alone can't teach.

Not every clinician sees children. We match your child to one specifically credentialed for child and adolescent care, by age, presentation, and fit. The practice houses clinicians affiliated with the National Institutes of Health, Columbia University, and New York-Presbyterian Hospital, and you can explore the research behind how we assess and treat. Care is available in-person at our Manhattan office, and by telehealth anywhere in New York State.

Insurance and Billing

Integrative Psych is an out-of-network practice. You pay at the time of service and receive a monthly superbill to submit to your insurer for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Many PPO plans reimburse a portion, and your insurer is the best source for what your plan covers. To check yours, call the number on your card and ask about out-of-network reimbursement for outpatient psychiatric evaluations, follow-up visits, and therapy.

Frequently Asked Questions

At what age can children begin treatment?

Our child and adolescent clinicians typically evaluate kids from roughly age 6 through 17. The youngest appropriate age depends on whether a structured evaluation will yield reliable findings and on the clinical picture you bring. For younger children, we can discuss fit on your initial consultation call.

When it's clinically indicated, and with full parent involvement. Medication is one tool among several, considered when symptoms are moderate-to-severe, when therapy alone isn't producing enough change, or when a condition is interfering with school, sleep, or safety. Dosing is adjusted on validated measures, and parents are part of every decision, including informed consent.

Structured and skills-based, not open-ended processing. CBT adapted for adolescents targets the patterns medication alone can't touch: procrastination, task initiation, time estimation, emotional regulation, and the self-concept damage that builds after years of being told to try harder. One clinician handles both therapy and medication, so the two are calibrated together.

Parent involvement is built in from intake, where you share the background context that feeds the Sigmund Assessment. You'll have parent-only sessions to gather history and coach on home strategies, family sessions when the plan calls for it, and school coordination when appropriate and authorized. Younger children's care centers on parent coaching; teens get developmentally appropriate privacy.

Our office is at 80 8th Ave in Manhattan, where children and teens are seen in person. We also offer telehealth anywhere in New York State. Some care decisions, including certain medications, may call for an in-person visit, which your clinician will discuss with you.

If a pattern at home or school has persisted past the point where waiting feels useful, or the gap between what your child can do and how they're doing keeps widening, an evaluation is a reasonable next step. The Sigmund Assessment maps the full picture first, so you get a clear read rather than a label.

Crisis Resources: We are not an emergency treatment clinic. If your child is in crisis, call 911, call or text 988 (Suicide and Crisis Lifeline), or go to the nearest emergency room. Integrative Psych is an outpatient practice and is not equipped to provide crisis intervention.
